Howdy fools
I think it's obvious that most people and let me try and be exact....... everyone including me is a fool!
I mean how can people be so similarly retarded all the time.
Take how the world is structured we all know that everyone in charge, at one point or another is corrupt and generally they are from a long line of similarly minded power hungary fools.
How do we change things? well it's complicated and probably impossible so I don't even know why I'm telling you but we have to change our value system.
Why? they are so valuable$$$$
well what could be swapped or added to improve our world.
done.

Teaching isn't a picnic Jane!
Hello everyone below Janes story unfolds creating more opportunities for success.
Continuing with my positive commentary from my previous post.
My basic points where as follows;
The further developments of the story what have learned now?
-Jane has been given an opportunity to understand what the community wants for their children and from the teachers.
- Parents are involved and know what the kids are doing at school, They have an opinion that is relevant to the community.
- A discussion with them would shed some light on the history of the school.
What does this mean how would we react what measure can Jane implement?
Human development just the ones I like.
-We have Piagets four stages of development most of the kids will be in formal operational.
-Then we have Vygotsky where development is linked to social interaction.
-Erickson's phychosocial stages, who I think probably has the broadest sense of what happens to us linked to our emotional spectrum coupled with a persons mental development. This is the crises for the students Jane Identity vs Confusion.
The main point I believe is that students are still in the best zone for learning they learn differently and gradually and socially.
Learning theory behaviourist/cognitive or humanist approches.
I believe essentially this is the point that Jane take a long hard look at her self.
The fact that the scenario hasn't mentioned any other faculty is a concern.
I don't think jane is taking a constructivist approach, I don't believe she is registering Maslows hierarchy of needs or Rogers watery freedom's to learn.
The situation needs a frank review of the past years work. Jane needs to ask for support from the community and the school faculty. The learning theory is just that it's not a support network Jane is operating solo and she shouldn't be.
Teaching all learners!!
This module is the most provocative and the most time consuming and emotionally taxing part of teaching.
My experience is showing me that a lot of teachers are taking the path of least resistance.
I believe they think that;
-The students can't learn what they are teaching.
-The students don't want to learn what they are teaching.
-That they are maintaining a standard of education.
This thinking remove's the teacher from the responsibility of the job. The thinking also relies on children to make adult decision on there future are we mad and blind?
Can the nine provocations help us understand these implications better?
-Relevence and emotion are the gate keepers to the mind learning.( something Sam in class said to me)
- Make connections with the community and use social constructivism theory.
-Introduce a food bowl program learning, growing and most importantly eating.
thanks........
Continuing with my positive commentary from my previous post.
My basic points where as follows;
-Preservice teachers wheren't being equiped for rural teaching.
-Jane needed to teach the fundamentals of learning, she needs to engage in the community by connecting the classroom learnings into community needs.
-Jane has been given an opportunity to understand what the community wants for their children and from the teachers.
- Parents are involved and know what the kids are doing at school, They have an opinion that is relevant to the community.
- A discussion with them would shed some light on the history of the school.
- Homework is'nt catering for the distance kids are traveling to school.
- Some kids maybe suffering malnourishment, A opportunity for group exercise in nourishment possibly etc. (this was missed in the last assessment)
What 's becoming apparent with this scenario is the huge opportunity to use reflective practice's. Jane is tired, despondent and is overlooking the needs of the students. The past year's work load with no apparent gains and the overheard feedback have clearly rattled her self efficacy.
I will give a brief view of my thinking on the avenues for reflection in context to the modules of the course that we should do at the end of every year.Human development just the ones I like.
-We have Piagets four stages of development most of the kids will be in formal operational.
-Then we have Vygotsky where development is linked to social interaction.

Can the nine provocations help us understand these implications better?
Will I be allowed to be the teacher I want to be? Will I allow myself to be the teacher I want to be.
What will students want and need from me? What will I want and need from my students.
What kind of teacher do I want to be? What kind of teacher do students want me to be.
I think Jane needs to step away from her preconceived idea's, of what the role of a teacher was going to be in a rural community.
On a final point I think that what Jane needs to do is locally adapt to the needs of the students and remember.-Relevence and emotion are the gate keepers to the mind learning.( something Sam in class said to me)
- Make connections with the community and use social constructivism theory.
-Introduce a food bowl program learning, growing and most importantly eating.

Find the right ICT to enhance your class room.
Why doesn't ICT always enhance learning what are the barriers. The fact is that generally most teachers are using ICT to teach the same way they always have, they aren't adapting there assessment to capture the dynamic ability of ICT.
Ideally I believe every classroom should have a Smart board or interactive board for the class and a computer for every student, this access to the global opportunity would give the teacher the optimal resource for teaching effectively beyond their own style and pedagogy.
The reality is that not all schools have Smart boards, to compound this lack of resource teacher's aren't trained in effective use's of smart boards as the boards are rolled out. If they are they forget because they aren't integrated into their teaching or assessment.
It is interesting that (Kennywell and Morgan 2003) site this as one of the barriers to effective use of Smart boards but we shouldn't assume that just because you have the skills and the equipment your going to be a great teacher with ICT.
This bring's us full circle to finding the right ICT to enhance your students learning. There isn't a right and wrong answer, any experienced teacher will maintain that you need a 1000 different strategies to motivate student learning and they don't always work.
This point of finding the right ICT is heavily discussed by (Harper, Hedburg and Wills 2003) they investigate 'designing learning with ICT' and that it needs to be assessed against quality teaching models. What I find they have uncovered is that teachers aren't sharing quality practices concerning ICT. This trend is changing but the application of ICT is up to the individual teacher.
The right tool for the job, connects outcomes and assessment in fun professional environment's.
You will find that ICT isn't a magic wand for teaching but what it can bring to the class is a new set of motivators.

HOW CAN ICT ENHANCE STUDENT LEARNING?
Thinking critically we really must question does ICT enhance's learning?
The simplest answer I have yet found is.... Yes it does and No it doesn't enhance learning. This statement springs forth from my understanding of the vast difference's of application of ICT by the teacher in classrooms in relation to the research.
Mostly teachers use ICT if they know how to and more readily if they can asses the work in relation to their faculty outcomes.
I believe ICT enhance's learning by:
Introducing live information into the classroom.
Providing more creative collaboration at lower cost such as free online services for sharing content.
Allowing students learning to be stimulated by visual and audio media.
By focused use of technologies linking creativity to academic success and promoting positive student self efficacy.
Being a dynamic system with the ability to adapt to different types of learners.
By developing individuals thinking and ability to critically sift information( images, text, video) in a group dynamic to shared values and outcomes.
How ICT is enhancing student learning is teachers learning with and teaching to students, by communicating information with technologies like smart boards, computers, mobil devices and the WWW.
Yes ICT has many devices but generally is most effective when it is being used to innovate core or boring subjects like Maths and English. Thats not to say it's not effective in any of the other subjects like Arts or Sciences, but when used by an experienced teacher, can be a wonderfully collaborative exercise that focuses students attention and motivates them to learn. I agree with both (Higgins 2000), (Blackmore & Owens 2003) that ICT must be thoroughly intergrated into learning outcomes and that when ICT is used it's tailored for specific lesson outcomes. The focus now is, what types ICT are best for what outcomes.

Communication and Technology what does it mean!
ICT=Information + Communication + Technology
Communication and Technology are interconnected here the graphic shows the world being connected through digital devices operating in concert of one another.
I suggest that the world is us in our classroom and now teachers and students are connected or networked globally.
While verbal and text instructions continue, the National Curriculum outlines that computers must be included in communicating to students.
This change in a teachers communication tool and learning tool has had standards emerge in regards to competencies of students computer literacy. Also this change has resulted in the expectations that parents place on teachers computer literacy being able to in turn teach and communicate effectively.
So what are the different ways of communicating with technology?
Well we have hardware which we all ready know most of them and use them daily, some not so much but basically phones, TV, Radio, Computers, Overhead projectors, Magic boards, CD's, World wide Web, projectors etc.
Then we have software. there are standard office software application like microsoft word, presentation software and desktop publishing or graphic software. Then there are Specialist software like computer aided design or rendering programs and media packages like Adobe creative suit.
We now also have online service's like Prezi.
Communicating or sending information generally begins with a teacher working within a school network or internal local area network (LAN), This is managed by Intact and a member of the schools faculty.
This network always has a filter to allow or disallow the type of information or content the teachers and parents want.
The other network that student's would access from home would be a external wide area network (WAN).
Essentially ICT is the teacher using mixed technologies to communicate rich content or information to students.
So..... How can ICT help enhance students learning?

Understanding ICT for classroom dummies 101.
As I've already pointed out, the outcomes of learning are more then just the assimilation of knowledge and more about the way you use knowledge critically.
Here the statement, How ICT can enhance student learning? will have to wait to be answered, until we understand what ICT is in context to teaching and some terms of reference have been applied to the concept.
What is ICT? ICT=I+C+T

Information
We have 5 senses that information can be transmitted and received by to communicate.
I would agree that information or knowledge was once only found in people, books, pictures, caves, paintings, song's and stories etc but now I argue that it's different, information has changed. Today we can teach to the disabled by tailoring information for specific learning abilities and sense, such as brail and audio files for the blind.
My point is, that the nature of information has evolved with our ability to encoded it, what we now have is information systems 'data bases' and strategies for delivering information such as video and audio to compliment the original text and verbal formats for learning.
The information is now data is not just text it's rich media like audio and visual this information is controlled and managed by Nations and has always been part of Education.
It's now a digital based system not a paper based file system like a library.

Enhance me now computer!
Wouldn't it be cool if we could simple turn on computer's and dump information directly into kids mind's. We still would need to maintain appropriate control on what knowledge goes in and how we guide it's application, it's of no use giving a student the means of understanding everything with out connecting it to relevant life experience's.
This truth I personally think can be explained when a person's attitude comes into play with knowledge, I admit my parents would have told me thousand times to work and study hard and life would be easier. I knew they were right, but I wanted to test that knowledge, now I know it's true how do I teach my own children?
Our main goal is teaching students to think critically, it is by disassembling and analysing the information/knowledge we give them into their own focused learning pattern, that they gain self efficacy. This thinking should be fun an easier to achieve together with computers.
The technologies we have are not so far removed from the device I'm talking about here, the staggering amount of information we have stored, the speed and distance it can travel are all leading to learning machines (LM's).
Unfortunatly for us that world is a few years off so we have to understand how the Information Communication Technologies we have now can enhance learning for us.
But what is ICT.

Digital Divide research topic 1 post5
The digital divide continued....
Hi everyone last post on the topic he-ray!!
For my last post I have these last three questions which I want to bundle into one answer as they rely on a coarse of action implemented by the teacher but possibly monitored by the government.
What is the importants of bridging the digital divide?
How much of the curriculum in schools will be digital?
Inclusion or participation?
The national curriculum is in effect and the national rollout of computers will be completed by 2014, the issue of digital divide will continue to evolve as well as the needs of the students.
It is clear that Australia is acting on a unified front for education (obviously not a process that can proceed equally everywhere).
The use of computers to connect communities and help deliver education in schools is being taught to teachers and they are putting the infrastructure in place to cope.
As a teacher the question of inclusion or participation relies heavily on our own ability to deliver relevant content with ICT delivery and judge what position students are in to adapt to their needs. The success of this will need to be assessed and the national curriculum will help implement this structure.
http://www.deewr.gov.au/Schooling/DigitalEducationRevolution/Resources/guide/StrategicPlanning/Pages/EffectiveuseandmanagementofICT.aspx
Fortunately I teach technology and my up to date understanding of the industry puts me in a much stronger position to deliver in class subjects that relate to relevant technology and the outside world.
Nicolas Gruen makes a strong point that we need to ensure equity of outcomes for everyone not just those that participate this once again is relient on the judgement of the teacher the frameworks they operate in and the tools they have avalible.

Just to give you a recap on the digital divide.(these aren't in any order)
Across the world the issue is in different stages.

Just to give you a recap on the digital divide.(these aren't in any order)
- In Australia the divide issue is no longer about who has a computer and who doesn't.
- It's about individuals ability in accessing information and the ability to use the hardware.
- Quality of connection is an issue when not at school and in rural area's.
- Socio-Economic factors of parents are still massive indicators to students literacy on computers and if they have a internet connection.
- Ability of teachers to use ICT effectively whilst not creating a gap between inclusion and participation is the new overall goal.
Across the world the issue is in different stages.
Digital Divide research topic 1 post4
The digital divide continued....
How does the divide effect my community my country?
Welcome back everyone this post I'm going to explore some of the questions I asked in my last post.
How many computers per student at school now?
What I found today is that the Gillard government has progressed with the delivery of computers to students across the years of 9-12 to be about one in three students having computers.
The department of Education estimates about 14,000 computers a month are being rolled out.
There are about one million students from year nine to year twelve as of April 2010.
What are the hold ups.
Well the delivery has blown out from $1 billion to $2 billion "thats double" and most likely will escalate before the programs goals have been reached, the plan was budgeted at 2.4 billion over seven years 2007-14 .
Why the blow out well it's simple the infrastructure of wireless in each school and the support staff needed to maintain systems has been under assessed.
http://www.theage.com.au/national/gillard-defends-failure-to-deliver-computers-to-schools-20100529-wmle.html
Who is effected by the digital divide and in what geographical area?
As of April 2010 computers rolled out to students in these three states by student % in schools are as follows:
N.S.W is 48.5%
S.A 15%
Victoria 28%
Clearly the roll out is inequitable for rural areas.
Are computer science/skills compulsory?
Not really sure on this question the ACARA site dosen't really make it clear , I believe currently schools have been individually responsible in establishing there own bench marks and delivery methods for ICT and the skills needed by students.
What are teachers responsibilities to ICT in schools?
The delivery of ICT is different at every school and each faculty has different responsibilities currently I'm responsible at my schoolplacement to make sure each student 7-10 can: as of 2004 technology dept.
- Use a word processing application to create a printed document.
- Use a software application to develop a published piece of original work which includes graphics.
What is the difference is service providers from rural to capitol city's?
The service providers are about half the number in the city so competition isn't as fierce.
To be continued.......

- Inclusion or participation?

Teaching and Assessment am I ready to teach.......
I had my pract this week I liked my experience and the lecture this week really help me find balance in what I'm feeling should be taught and whats expected.
Standards for me represent a bench mark of whats expected from teachers and are really a short cut for those lacking understanding(me). I've had probably ten jobs and I'm very surprised that it's only now teachers are being measured nationally together to maintain students education in the different faculties.
My faculty won't be part of the National curriculum till 2013-14 and only in 9-12 but I'm interested in what the shared understanding's are.
This week Kylie and I presented the class our 10min lesson, the feed back we received was above average which is I guess daunting I mean we spent about two hours on a ten minute lesson. I wonder is that average?
thanks....

interestingly election promise (2007) I remember from a few years back that Kevin Rudds pre-election speech stated that Labour would.....
Labor: A school computer for every Year 9-12 student
This can be watched on the link and It sent a very strong message that our leaders are aware of the impact computers are having in education. This is not just a Australian thing either a lot of what our government is doing in way of education reform is an echo from the United states, the good thing about this echo is that the technology isn't an echo too.
I'm going to list some aspects of the topic that I hope to investigate further in my last two post .
- How many computers per student at school now?

Digital Divide research topic 1 post2
The digital divide Continued...
To help understand the concept from my last blog I'll begin with 5 hypothetical scenario's.
The student could have one of the following, these results could stem from determining factors in the home environment, such as how much money is earned in the house, what type of education do the parents have, and the geographic location such as in the desert or the dark side of the moon.
1. The student doesn't have access to computer at school.
2. Own's a computer but has no internet access.
3. Own's a computer with internet access, but of poor quality ie down load and upload speed (dial up).
4. Own's a computer but doesn't know how to use it (or other family members use it more).
5. The student has access to a computer but only at school.
What does this mean?
To put it plainly we have a percentage of kids in schools who can't participate fully in there work from home, that means they need to undertake all there ICT while on school grounds as well as attend all classes.
Is it even that important that we make sure kids have access, I mean how many people are using computers in australia anyway, can't we just do teaching the old way on paper? NO
The graph below shows that generally 75% of Australians are now online, now admittedly Tanya Notley & Marcus point out that this data can't be 100% percent as there are pockets in the community that are missed in the data collection but as a general rule it make a strong point that computers are a big part of our lives.
WOW OMG could this be true! Yes
To be continued .......

I've been thinking about the lecture teaching a thinking and caring approche.
If as a teacher I'm being reviewed and guided by say a national curriculum, my schools website and individual school values etc and as adults we have the tools to self reflect and improve and are supported.
When and where is it written for the child to understand you as a teacher?
and their own understanding of themselves in part of their schooling do they reflect on their choices?
How are they reflecting the other side of taking a thinking and caring approche to learning?
Big questions I'm sure I'll find answers for this may be part of the hidden curriculum we teach, here I've jotted down some learnings for future reference.
1)Decision making skills:
2)When do I teach what and to whom?
3)Expanding environment approach:
How do I asked questions ?
This is all part of having a balanced approche to my pedagogy certainly my observations tomorrow are going to be adventurous to say the least and will require a lot of reflection.
thanks

1)Decision making skills:
- Acquiring knowledge.
- Establishing values and prioritising.
- Recognising context.
- Reviewing consequence of actions.
2)When do I teach what and to whom?
- Observe
- Practice
- Perfect
3)Expanding environment approach:
- Break the skills down to components.
- Show the detail of each of the components.
- Show the out come.
How do I asked questions ?
- Open questions allow a whole possibility of answers.
- Closed questions are more factual and are of a classical nature such as one question one answer.
This is all part of having a balanced approche to my pedagogy certainly my observations tomorrow are going to be adventurous to say the least and will require a lot of reflection.

Blog or not to blog
Grrrrhhhh!!!
I know my title sounds dramatic and it's supposed too I as yet haven't had any comments
what does this mean?
My blogs are hard to read because?
I lack a linear train of thought argument conclusion.
People simple don't @#%%& appreciate me, my point of view isn't valued$$.
My blog style is unconvincing my points a fractured and overal lack cohesion and direction.
I ramble and use to much @#$@#% symbols.
I don't connect my argument very well to initial content that I'm referring to.
I expect to much and don't deliver focused accurate statements.
I repeat myself.
what are my opportunity's to create a better blog or simple........to not
-Simplify my point.
-Unpack my statements more precisely.
-Correct my punctuality and grammer.
-Kindly allow myself to develop and relax into the focus writing process.

Phew found the image didn't have to actually do this.
No thanks

I wonder if this is helpful?

A teacher is the one difference that makes a major change to the outcomes of a students future.
I like this statement I find it ominous, put's a a bit of fear into me to think laterally when it comes to the development of a kid as a person(while obviously not imprinting my value system on them oo la la).
When it comes for me to practice teaching, I like to think I wont be just maintaining a standard and ranking kids against rubrics in line with the schools curriculum.
I hope I'll operate for kids benefit, beyond what is the standard model we are working under and remember that the world is ever changing and so are our understandings.
This is my philosophy , it would be easy for you to think I'm trying to be subversive. I on the other hand will continue to believe that there is a better way to enrich the learning environment beyond what your immediate experience is telling me.
Thanks

This blogg references Jane's rural scenario. "She feels the students don't want to do her work, and that her classes are at times difficult to control. To add to this she has found the community challenging, and at times some parents have seemed openly hostile to the school".
With reference to one of the scenarios, how might knowledge of the philosophy and history of education help you understand your role?
Jane's scenario.
Having experienced a year long posting in a previous retail business to a rural community I can easily understand Jane's feelings. The research I uncovered in relation to the rural postings reflects an understanding in the academic community of the scope of issues that are being tackled. What's stated in Boylans (2003)pg8 paper was that out of eleven universities in NSW only one was offering rural content for education coarse. I had an arha moment then no wonder rural communities are having such a hard time. Now I thought well what they need to do is start taking students out to do practical experience and thats what the Hudsons(2008) did, their report showed that yeah a simple exercise in hands on development helped change the attitudes of preservice teachers so that they were better equip to make employment selection.
I used to think teaching was.
Teacher+student+classroom+curriculum=school
Looking at the scenario in the scope of her career however unpacks so many issues, this could be just one school of many after all it's a job and if your not comfortable you should move on, certainly if your not doing any good. But if you read the scenario carefully you'll see that there is room to move in her approach, thats where the philosophy of teaching come's into play. Jane can change the work, she can implement different lesson. Jane can have the parents respond to what they believe needs to happen so she has a better understanding of the community.
How might knowledge of the philosophy and history of education help you understand your role?
I certainly had feelings about what type of teacher I wanted to be, I think that I understood what the role was in context of the community. This was all before I actually started educating my self in the philosophy and history of education. I'd like too think at the very least it would make me a better teacher (optimist), of coarse the pessimist in me says I'm just part of the industrial machine making more gogs.(the realist in me is typing).Mostly I'm feeling like I'm joining a relay race that's already started and I will never see the end of, just the people I participate with.
I think it's helped me feel good in knowing that the field is evolving beyond what I experienced. I believe that we grad dippers are being trained to be better teachers then then our predecessors. Our Education of the profession/Trade it's history and philosophy helps me understand the teaching environment's we are entering and hopefully will help me with my career.
I'm aligning my own philosophy's and beliefs into existing frameworks this is saving a lot of thinking time which I'm sure is why they do it.
My own basic philosophical belief is that education should be presented to all pupils equally without restraint's imposed by race, economic status, religious beliefs or political views and we educators must strive to be relevant and have a objective view of the past.
Understanding my role?
Not every school is going to be the same nor is the communities or students, philosophy's good and all but I'd rather make up my mind on the job (I could be developing unrealistic expectations of my self).
The nine provocations
Should we teach students or subjects?
When I'm presented with a student that wants to learn more I'll teach them more otherwise I will endeavour to deliver the subjects in a fun provoking manner.
How will I control my students?
I think understanding my limits will help a lot in the class room as well as having mechanism to implement when that happens rather then just say I don't know lets move on.
Thanks

reflective journal Technology KLA
First Tut I thought went well despite the failings of our ICT to deliver the content we needed. chuckle
Amanda's instruction I found delivered results that I found valuable.
Analysing the motivations of the myself to become a teachers and learning of the groups was encouraging.
The reading by Egan on Curriculum was interesting and It raises many question which I think will be answered when I watch the Lecture when it's avalible etc.The releasing of a national curriculum will have a huge impact and I'm thankful for the fact that I'm not going to be intrenched in one style and changing, I'm sure the teachers of the ACT feel happy with the system they have.
To me the word curriculum is the framework we operate under and outlines process of delivering and the outcomes?
A point was made to me last night over dinner that ICT is hugh in schooling now days and with the new National curriculum schools can now deliver most things online and you won't need teachers. I laughed after I thought about it for a moment after I realised No parent's will ever let there kids stay at home on mass every day unsupervised not to mention that design is one of those subjects where you need facilities to learn and teach.
9 provocations
number6. What will students want and need from me?
My initial thought was direction ,content delivered in an interesting way, safety , ideas, respect and after the tut with amanda it seems obvious and overlooked but.
Regular and meaningful Feedback! thanks Amanda
cheers

Digital Divide research topic 1 post1
What is the digital divide ?
The digital divide is what exist today for a percentage? of students/adults that simply don't have access to the learning opportunity's that computers deliver. These include Web 2.0 Information Communication Technologies like community wiki's or other social networking sites like facebook blogs etc, as well as Web 1.0 general web pages that readers should be familiar with over the last 10 years.
My understanding of the definition comes from WordIq.com http://www.wordiq.com/about.htm It's as good as any site for a broad definition (Davison and Cotten; 2003) theory form the basis of the definition I'm running with it because I liked there Web ethos.
I will explore the definition in my blog but basically the digital divide is not simply about the physical access to a computer, The issue has broadened in the last couple of years, to include quality of computer, cost of package of service provider(stemming from competition I believe) as well as the socioeconomic or geographic position of the user and that even then they aren't necessarily the only factors that contribute to the gap.
To be continued.........
Thanks
